Shariah compliance function
The internal control function that checks, day to day, that operations follow Shariah board rulings.
The Shariah compliance function is an internal control function that monitors whether an institution's operations follow the rulings of its Shariah board and applicable Shariah standards. IFSB-30 lists it among the control functions, alongside risk management, compliance, internal audit and internal Shariah audit. AAOIFI's governance standard on the Shariah compliance function describes its role, independence and reporting lines.
